Water transportation! La transportación en el agua

This week it was about water transportation. We added a small boat to our dramatic play and the children pretended to fish and the children counted 1:1 correspondence to the fish. We learned the importance of how to use life jackets and why it is important to have adult supervision around water such as pools, beaches and lakes. The children experimented with different materials and water, and we find out which material float and sink. Also, we discussed why some objects float and some sink. The children made boats with different materials and we tried their boat resistance by added a rock.   Also, we learned that water travels from one cup to another. This process is called “capillary action”; the water uses this process to move along the tiny gaps in the fiber of the paper towels. Esta semana fue acerca de la transportación en el agua. Air Transportation! Transportación en el aire!

This week, we learned about air transportation. We transformed our dramatic area into an airport. The children pretended to pass through a security checkpoint, put their bags through an x-ray machine and rode in an airplane. The children practiced their fine motor by writing in their passports and tickets. The children experimented with a small parachute and they dropped it from different heights. We made paper airplanes and we used our shoes to measure the distance that our airplane flew. The children used colored wooden sticks and different colors of tape to make their representation of airplanes.   We discussed how airplanes and birds are similar and different. We learned that both had wings and tales but airplanes had engines. It was so much fun to ride on our airplane! Esta semana, aprendimos acerca de la transportación en el aire. Transportation! Transportación!

Our transportation study has begun. We transformed our dramatic play into an auto shop. The children pretend to fix a car and writing mechanics report. We learned that cars need gasoline, a motor and people to make it go. The children explored Ms. White’s car and we learned about the gasoline tank, engine, wiper fluids and tires. They noticed tires had number and letters.   Also, we discovered different patterns on the tires.   The children used blocks to make train tracks and roads for the cars.   The children use different materials to make representations of cars and trains. The children used Legos and connect flex blocks to build cars and trains. We made driver licenses and discuss the importance of a driver license. Pets! Mascotas!

We spent our week by celebrating what we learned about pets. The children built structures with different blocks and they are practicing to draw pictures of their structure. It is very interesting how children view their structures.   The children sorted pets by colors and created patterns.   Also, we had a special visit from Dr. Andrew. He showed the children how to examine a dog and the importance of his job. He showed the children some bones and teeth. It was really fun to learn how veterinarians help us to take care of our pets. Next week we will discuss land transportation. Pasamos esta semana celebrando lo que aprendimos de  las mascotas.
