Smart Apples

This week, we begin our study in clothes.   We set up a clothes shop. The children sorted clothes and use hangers to arrange the clothes. The children expanded their play scheme, they ask for music and a runway so they can model different clothes. The children created a fabric collage and we used scissors to cut out a t –shirt. The children used markers, colored pencils and stickers to design their own t-shirt. At the sensory table, the children play with different socks. We discussed size and how much sand each sock can hold.   We used balance to find out which sock was heavier. The school year is coming to an end. We continued learning about insects. We learned about how honeybees collect nectar and pollen. They carry it to their hives. The children taste honey. We found out everybody like the taste of honey, because it is sweet. Also, we learned that spider work really hard and use their web to catch their food. We used cardboard to make beautiful spiders. The children continued to explore insects. They used microscopes and magnifying glasses to explore different insects and describe their color, shape and size. We practiced our fine motor by transferring water with eyedroppers and used nest to catch insects. This week was our family picnic. It was great to enjoy a fun day with the family and play outside on a beautiful spring day. We want to thank the families for taking their time and sharing with our class and school! This week was a short week, but it was filled with so much fun! We learned about insects. The children explored different plastic insects. They sorted and counted insects. We learned that most insects have 6 legs, 2 antennas, 2 eyes and their bodies are formed by three parts: a head, thorax and abdomen. We transformed our dramatic play into a bug lab. The children dug for bugs. The children used a fly swatter to paint a beautiful print and pattern. The children used brown play dough to make their favorite insect. The children work hard to make mothers’ day cards and create a beautiful design in a mug. This week we continue our study in flowers. The children used flowers as paintbrushes. It was fun to observe the different patterns and mixed colors. The children continue to pretend to sale and make cards for the flower arraignments.   The children observed the bean sprouts and we planted them in a small cup.   We learned why water is important for the flower and how it travels from the bottom to the top. We use carnation flowers and each child chose the color of the water. We put the flower in colored water and we left it overnight. The children observe how the flower changes color. This week we had a special guess from Wells Fargo. We learned the importance of things we need and things we want.   It was a week full of learning and fun experiences!
