Insects! Insectos!

This week was a short week, but it was filled with so much fun! We learned about insects. The children explored different plastic insects. They sorted and counted insects. We learned that most insects have 6 legs, 2 antennas, 2 eyes and their bodies are formed by three parts: a head, thorax and abdomen. We transformed our dramatic play into a bug lab. The children dug for bugs. The children used a fly swatter to paint a beautiful print and pattern. The children used brown play dough to make their favorite insect. The children work hard to make mothers’ day cards and create a beautiful design in a mug. We want to wish to the mothers a very happy mother’s day! 
Esta semana fue  corta, pero llena de mucha diversión! Aprendimos acerca de los insectos. Los niños exploraron diferentes insectos plásticos. Los niños clasificaron y contaron insectos. Aprendimos que los insectos tiene 6 patas, 2 antenas , 2 ojos y sus cuerpos esta conformado por tres partes: una cabeza, pecho y abdomen. Transformamos nuestra área de dramático en un laboratorio de insectos. Los  niños escavaron por insectos. Los niños usaron un mata mosca pata pintar hermosos patrones y  estampado. Los niños usaron plastilina marrón para hacer sus insectos favoritos. Los niños trabajaron muy duro en sus tarjetas para sus madres y crearon hermosos diseños en su taza. Nos gustaría desearle a todos las madres un feliz día de la madre!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
