Smart Apples

This week we continue our study on winter. At art center, the children created the representation of winter trees and made snowmen by the number of letters in their name and they added amazing details. Also, they painted with white paint, we pretended to paint with snow. At the sensory table, we added instant snow, it was a simple experiment. We added water to the instant snow. We learned that instant snow is actually derived from the super absorbent polymer found in baby diapers. When water comes in contact with the polymer, it moves from outside the polymer to the inside and causes it to swell. The children played with our magic snow and measuring cups. At science table, the children used marshmallows and toothpicks to make a tower and they learned that snowflakes are different shapes, but the initial shape of the snowflake is a hexagon and crystal attached to this shape to create amazing beautiful snowflakes. During our first week of remote learning. We close our study on Bakery. We talked about our favorite bread and our favorite spread. The children engaged and practice basic skills by counting, writing their name and sorting words by initial sounds.   During our second week of remote learning. We explored what we know about winter and identify some signs of winter around of us. The children continue engaging in seesaw to practice continue patterns and measuring object. We will continue exploring this topic the following week. Our first week of this year! We spent the week by continuing exploring our study on Bakery. At art center, we painted with condensed milk. Some of the kids tasted and they love the sweet paint. Also, they used cups of different sizes to create collages and patterns and we stamped letters. We continued our handwriting without tears. We practice writing uppercase letters. At science table, we use heavy cream to make butter. All the kids had a turn to shake it and count up to 10. Also, we experimented with milk and detergent. We learned that milk is a non-polar molecule and won’t dissolve in water. When soap is added to the milk, it allows the fat to be carried through the water (which is why we use soap to clean dishes). When the soap is dropped into the milk, the soap and fat molecules combine, which causes the food coloring to move rapidly through the milk, creating pretty, swirling patterns.
