Smart Apples

This week, we transformed our dramatic area into a vet office. The children pretended to examine their pets. The children pretended to write vet reports and prescriptions. The children sorted pets by color and they counted 1:1 correspondence and wrote numbers. The children practice their fine motor by using hammer and golf tees and they hammered it to foam and they stringed cereal. The children used blocks to build houses for their pets. Also, we had a special treat; we sorted, counted and graphed goldfish. Yummy! Esta semana, transformamos nuestra área de dramático en una ofician de veterinario. This week we started our study on pets.   We transformed our dramatic area into a pet store. The children had the opportunity to pretend to groom their favorite pet, buy snacks and write an inventory.   We added pictures of different pet homes and different materials, such as felt, rock, plastic leaves and paper rolls. We encouraged the children to build pet homes. The children created patterns with stickers and we played with an ABC’s bingo game. The children drew pictures of their favorite pets and they sorted animals by pets and zoo animals. It was a busy and fun week! Esta semana empezamos nuestro estudio en las mascotas. This week was really short because of the weather. We had the first snow day of the year.   I hope you and your family enjoyed these days off.   We came back for two days and we spent those days adapting to the routine. Our first week of the New Year 2017! This week, we discussed how animals adapt to the winter. We learned that some animals grow ticker fur to protect them from the weather. We learned that a rabbit fur changes during the winter. Rabbit fur changes to white so they can protect themselves from weather and other animals. Some of animals that adapt to the weather are mice, rabbit, some owl and deer. The children practiced their fine motors skills. They drew pictures of mice and use scissors to cut out rabbits and glue cotton. Also, the children used shipping foam peanuts to make igloos. The children used mittens to measure their height and count 1:1 correspondence. The children decided our next study would be on Pets.
