Smart Apples

This week we celebrated the holiday with a holiday spirit week, and we learned about one of my favorite books “The Gingerbread Man” and different versions. We transformed our dramatic play into a Bakery. The children pretended to bake their favorite cookies and made hot chocolate. At blocks, the children built houses and different structures for our gingerbread man. At art table, the children decorated gingerbread men and candy canes. At science table, the children play with dice counting 1:1 the dots and made lines in candy canes and they tasted a delicious gingerbread cookies and candy canes. We finally ended our week with a pajama day and decorated delicious cookies. Ms. Brooke and I want to wish you a restful and safe holiday and want to thank you for all your patience and support through this unusual school year. This week we learned about air transportation. We transform our dramatic center into an airport. The children dress up as pilots and went through security and played with passports. The children talk about the places they will like to visit such as: Africa, Australia and Florida. Also, the children created their own patterns with stickers. At math, the children use unifix cubes to measure a variety of planes. The children practice counting 1:1 correspondence and understanding the process of measuring. At science table, we experimented with parachutes and small blocks. The children launched the parachutes from different heights. We found that from the highest place the parachute goes very slow, but when we added small blocks the parachute was very quick and fast to reach the floor. Also, we made paper airplanes. We measured the distance they flew. Also, we took our paper airplanes outside. The children had so much fun! They observe that wind and height help paper airplanes go farther. I...

This week we continue our study on transportation. The children experimented with ramps and cars. At blocks the children built their own ramps with blocks and plastic gutters. We use different cars to observe their speed. We learned some cars were faster than others. It depends on the steep of the ramp. At science, the children experimented with a small ramp and cars and they measure the distance that their car move. The children compared the distances. It was great to see the children compare their car distances. Also, the children continue engaging in fine motor activities, at art center they used scissors to cut simple shapes to create their own car and train.
