This week we continue our study on transportation. The children experimented with ramps and cars. At blocks the children built their own ramps with blocks and plastic gutters. We use different cars to observe their speed. We learned some cars were faster than others. It depends on the steep of the ramp. At science, the children experimented with a small ramp and cars and they measure the distance that their car move. The children compared the distances. It was great to see the children compare their car distances. Also, the children continue engaging in fine motor activities, at art center they used scissors to cut simple shapes to create their own car and train. At the writing table they use stickers and their journals. It was a week full of science activities and exploration!

 

Esta semana continuamos nuestro estudio sobre el transporte. Los niños experimentaron con rampas y autos. En los bloques, los niños construyeron sus propias rampas con bloques y canaletas de plástico. Usamos diferentes autos para observar su velocidad. Aprendimos que algunos autos eran más rápidos que otros. Depende de la pendiente de la rampa. En ciencias, los niños experimentaron con una pequeña rampa y autos y miden la distancia que se mueve su auto. Los niños compararon las distancias. Fue genial ver a los niños comparar las distancias de sus autos. Además, los niños continúan participando en actividades de motricidad fina, en el centro de arte usaron tijeras para cortar formas simples para crear su propio auto y tren. En la mesa de escritura usan pegatinas y sus diarios. ¡Fue una semana llena de actividades científicas y exploración!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
