Smart Apples

This week was filled with delicious activities.  We transformed our dramatic play into a bakery. The children pretended to bake delicious cookies, donuts and bread.  The children experimented with pretend play eggs, cake mixers and measuring cups.  At art table we painted with colored condescend milk, it was fun to taste and we painted with it. We also practice our fine motor, we used scissors to cut a cupcake cut out and decorated it with stickers and dot to dot and we painted with rolled pins. Also, we use watercolors to paint our pretend bread that we made with salt play dough.  We learned how a mix of yeast, sugar and water produce a chemical reaction that produces gas. We learned yeast help the bread to grow and make it fluffy. We also painted bread with colored milk and we used a toaster. This week was full of learning and fun! We practice our fine motor by cutting a stegosaurs and using small triangles to create patterns. The children created AB and ABC patterns. The children painted our volcano and decorated our dinosaur habitat. It is great to see how the children work in small groups to reach a common goal. Also, the children painted with dinosaurs and used straws to paint. The children had fun with our floating experiment. The children use straw and paper to create a funnel to blow to make the cotton float. We investigated how tall was the T-Rex? We found out the T-Rex was 40 feet tall. We used toilet paper to measure 40 feet. The children laid   down beside the toilet paper and we found out that our class height is taller than a T-Rex but our individual height is smaller than a T-Rex. We became scientists this week. . We estimated how many shoes will fit in a real size t-Rex footprint and we estimated how much a t-Rex weighs. We learned about scales and we talked about our weight and class weight. We learned the t-Rex was very heavy. T-Rex weighs 8 tons. We continued playing with measuring tapes.   We experimented with oil and colored water. It was fun to observe how the oil and water does not mix. The children used straws and marshmallows to create representation of dinosaurs. It was fun and delicious! The children worked in small groups. This week two groups worked in mixed play dough and they created our volcano. We will let it dry over the weekend and another two groups will paint and decorate our volcano and dinosaur habitat. Also, we add a new game to our manipulative center. The children are learning to play Chutes and ladders. We are counting, taking turns and staying on task. We continue our study on dinosaurs. The children made dinosaur skeletons with q- tips and they used colorful play-dough and pasta to create their favorite dinosaur. We discuss what a paleontologist is and how they travel around the word and find dinosaur bones and send them to the museum. We became paleontologist at the science table and we dug up chocolate chips and counted them 1:1 correspondence. It was fun and delicious! We read the book 10 Terrible Dinosaurs! It was a great counting book. The children use small dinosaurs and numbers to retell the story. The children added dinosaurs to the structures and we added their picture to a paper cylinder. The children built towers and added themselves to their structures.   We added a new toy to our manipulative center, kid k’nex was a big success! This week, we began our study in dinosaurs. We transformed our dramatic play in a small museum. The children pretended to dig for bones and dinosaurs. The children use non-standard measurement and measuring tapes. The children sorted dinosaur’s eggs by size. The children used a variety of blocks to make caves for the dinosaurs. The children used brushes to dig out small dinosaurs and count 1:1 correspondence. Also, we used wet sand to play with dinosaur mold. At the science table, the children experimented with vinegar and baking soda. We discuss that two elements mixed can cause a chemical reaction and that is the reason vinegar and baking soda created bubbles. Our classroom celebrated Dr. Seuss by reading Green Eggs and Ham and we cooked delicious green eggs and ham. We love green eggs and ham! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
