Dinosaurs! Dinosaurios!

We continue our study on dinosaurs. The children made dinosaur skeletons with q- tips and they used colorful play-dough and pasta to create their favorite dinosaur. We discuss what a paleontologist is and how they travel around the word and find dinosaur bones and send them to the museum. We became paleontologist at the science table and we dug up chocolate chips and counted them 1:1 correspondence. It was fun and delicious! We read the book 10 Terrible Dinosaurs! It was a great counting book. The children use small dinosaurs and numbers to retell the story. The children added dinosaurs to the structures and we added their picture to a paper cylinder. The children built towers and added themselves to their structures.  We added a new toy to our manipulative center, kid k’nex was a big success! The children have the opportunity to build and create different things. The children are continuing working and playing together. We want to thank all the parents for attending the parents-teachers conference. It was great to sit with each family and create new goals for the next few months. 
Continuamos nuestro estudio en los dinosaurios. Los  niños hicieron esqueletos  con q-tips y usaron plastilina de muchos colores y pasta para crear su dinosaurio favorito. Discutimos que es un paleontólogo y como viaja alrededor del mundo y encuentra los huesos de lo dinosaurios y los envía a los museos. Nos convertimos en paleontólogos en la mesa de ciencia y escavamos chispas de chocolate y las contamos 1:1 correspondencia. Fue divertido y delicioso! Leímos el libro 10 terrible dinosaurio! Es un maravilloso libro para contar. Los niños usaron dinosaurios de plástico y números para recontar el libro. Los niños añadieron dinosaurios a las estructura y añadimos sus fotos en los cilindros de papel. Los niños construyeron torres y se añadieron a sus estructuras. Añadimos un Nuevo juguete a nuestra centro de manipulativos, Kid k’nex fue un gran éxito! Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de construir y crear diferentes  cosas. Los niños continúan trabajando y jugando juntos. Queremos agradecer a todos los padres por atender a nuestra conferencia. Fue maravilloso sentarnos con cada familia y crear nuevas metas para los siguientes meses.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
