Winter Celebration! Celebración en el invierno!

This week was a short week! We learned about some winter celebrations. Miss. Jose visited our classroom and explained how people in Holland celebrated Christmas. She shared some delicious cookies with us. Also, I shared how people celebrate Christmas in Venezuela. We have a special visit from Santa Claus. Thanks to the parents for sharing cookies with us. It was a sweet morning! Ms. Krista and I want to wish each of our families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  Thanks for letting us be a part of your family! Esta semana fue corta! Migration! Migración!

This week, we learned about migration. Some animals travel long distance for food and warm weather. We learned that some birds and monarch butterflies travel south. Most birds and butterflies go to Panama. The children painted beautiful butterflies and used feathers to create their representation of birds. The children continued to create structures with different blocks. We are encouraging them to describe their structures. The children continue to learn about patterns and basic literacy skills such as recognizing letters and sounds. It was a fun week full of new learning! Hibernation! Hibernación!

We continue learning about winter. This week we learned about hibernation. We learned that some animals hibernate or sleep through the winter. We learned that some animals eat a lot during the fall and that fat help them to stay warm during the winter. Some of the animals that hibernate are snakes, bears, chipmunks, and groundhogs. The children used paper plates and watercolors to create a snake and used paint to paint their favorite bear. Also, the children used blocks to build a cave for our teddy bears. The children played with snow at the sensory table.   Also, we added scarves and gloves to our dramatic center; we encourage the children to practice their self-help skills.   Friday was a special day for our class; we had our gingerbread house day. It was fun to see the parents and children working together. It was a delicious activity and together they built wonderful gingerbread houses. Winter! Invierno!

Winter is coming and we began our study on winter. This week, we learned about signs of winter and snowflakes. We know that the snowflake is a type of precipitation and that snowflakes basic shape is a hexagon, but temperature and wind can change their basic shape and that is why there are no two snowflakes the same. There are 33 types of snowflakes!   The children created a representation of a winter tree, played with peppermint play dough and practice their fine motor by cutting snowflakes and writing their name. The children used pattern blocks to create snowflake patterns and used snowflake stickers to make AB pattern. The children built structures using toothpick and marshmallows. Celebration! Celebración! Family fest! Almuerzo familiar!

This week was about celebration. We celebrated the importance of family and friends. We would like to thank all the families who attended our family fest. Thanks for sharing their time and delicious desserts. Also, we celebrated what we learned about dinosaurs. The children created a T-Rex dinosaur with the toilet paper rolls that the families donated. Thanks for all your help! .   Ms. Krista and I would like to wish you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving Day! Our next study will be on winter. Esta semana fue acerca celebración. Dinosaurs! Dinosaurios!

We continued our study on dinosaurs. The children learned about standard and non-standard measure. The children measured the length of bones with measuring tape and sorted them by size. They wrote their observations. We learned about non-standard measure, the children use linking cubes to measure the length of dinosaur footprints. The children counted 1:1 correspondence. Also, the children worked in small groups to make a volcano. The children worked in small groups and prepared play dough to make the volcano shape, painted the volcano and added details such as rocks and dinosaurs. The children used oil pastel to draw pictures of volcanoes and their favorite dinosaur. Also, we also added pattern blocks and the children completed dinosaur patterns and recognized basic shapes.
