Hibernation! Hibernación!

We continue learning about winter. This week we learned about hibernation. We learned that some animals hibernate or sleep through the winter. We learned that some animals eat a lot during the fall and that fat help them to stay warm during the winter. Some of the animals that hibernate are snakes, bears, chipmunks, and groundhogs. The children used paper plates and watercolors to create a snake and used paint to paint their favorite bear. Also, the children used blocks to build a cave for our teddy bears. The children played with snow at the sensory table.  Also, we added scarves and gloves to our dramatic center; we encourage the children to practice their self-help skills.  Friday was a special day for our class; we had our gingerbread house day. It was fun to see the parents and children working together. It was a delicious activity and together they built wonderful gingerbread houses. Thanks to the parents, it is always wonderful to share experiences with each family.

 Continuamos aprendiendo acerca del invierno. Esta semana aprendimos acerca hibernación. Aprendimos que algunos animales hibernar o duerme durante el invierno. Aprendimos que algunos animales come durante el otoño y esa grasa ayuda a los animales a estar caliente durante el invierno. Algunos de los animales que hibernar son las culebras, osos, ardillas y topos. Los niños usaron platos de papeles y pinturas de agua para crear una culebra y usaron pintura para pintar sus oso favorito. También, los niños usaros bloques para construir una cueva para los ositos de  peluches. Los niños jugaron con nieve en la mesa sensorial. También, agregamos bufandas y guantes a nuestra área de dramático, los niños practicaron su  habilidad de vestir. El viernes fue un día especial para nuestra clase, Tuvimos nuestra casas de jengibre. Fue divertido ver a los padres y a los niños trabajar juntos. Fue una deliciosa actividad y juntos construyeron unas maravillosas casas de jengibre. Gracias a los padres, siempre es una experiencia maravillosa compartir con cada familia.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
