Smart Apples

We start our study on flowers. We created a KWL chart. This week, we research about different seeds. We learned that beans can be a seed. At sensory, we used a variety of flowers and a drainer to practice fine motor skills. The children found different ways to use it and sort flowers. At dramatic play, the children pretended to make arrangements, sort flowers and use some gardening tools. At art table, the children observe flowers and created their representation and used their geometric shapes to make flowers. At science table, we learned that beans have a belly button just like us. The belly button is called hilum. The rest of the bean is made up of this solid white stuff, and it has a funny name: it’s called the cotyledon. The cotyledon is basically stored-up plant food. It’s what the embryo will use for energy when it first starts to grow. When you eat a bean, your body also uses the cotyledon to give you energy! This week we continued learning about our human body. We learned that the heart is one of most important organs and its function is to move blood throughout our body. Also, controls the rhythm and speed of your heart  rate .  At science center, we created a pumping heart model., the children learned that our heart have two sides and both pump blood.  At art table, the children created their representation of a person by using collage materials. At dramatic play, the children continue to pretend to be a doctor and patient. The children took turns and use the different tools to check their friend’s health.  At blocks, the children created an amazing hospital and doctor office. At sensory, we learned that our blood has three main components; White blood cells, red blood cells and plasma. The children used the tongs to sort the different components. This week, we continued our study on the human body. We learned that some bones protect some organs. Our skull protects our brain and ribs protect our heart and lungs. We learned that our brain helps us to process information, feelings and solve problems. Also, we learned that our lungs help us to take deep breath. At science table, we use non-standard measurement to measure parts of the body. The children count 1:1 and wrote numbers. Also, we exercise our lungs by blowing balloons. The children took deep breaths to fill balloons with air. At blocks, the children use blocks to create a skeleton. At literacy, we spell words and recognize letters and sounds. At art table, we made skeletons with Q-tips and we use yarn to represent our veins. At dramatic play, the children continued to pretend to be a doctor and patient.
