Buildings/Los edificios

This week was shorter than usual due to the weather, but we focused on learning about what happens inside buildings. We discussed how buildings have signs and numbers that help us identify and locate them. Additionally, we added boxes to our block center and encouraged the children to enhance their structures.  In the sensory area, the children played with pipes, water, and measuring cups. We continued our exploration of letters, numbers, and one-to-one object counting. We also celebrated Bogie's birthday, where the children made him a card and gave him a present. Looking ahead, the children have decided that next week we will discuss holiday and Christmas themes, and in January, we will celebrate our learning about buildings by working in small groups to create a building project.   Esta semana fue más corta de lo habitual debido al clima, pero nos concentramos en aprender sobre lo que sucede dentro de los edificios. Buildings/ Los Edificios

This week, we explored how buildings are constructed from various materials, including bricks, glass, cement, metal, and wood. We learned that these materials contribute to the strength of buildings. When a building is not strong, it risks collapsing. At the art table, the children used markers to create blueprints of their dream houses, employed shapes to design buildings, and utilized clay and wooden sticks to represent their creations. At the sensory table, they built structures with foam blocks, learning about balance as they constructed their designs over water. In the literacy center, children practiced recognizing letters and sounds, matched letters, and identified missing letters. At the manipulatives table, they cut tape, used link chains to measure lengths, practiced patterns with unifix cubes, and built structures with large Legos, measuring the height of their tallest creations.
