Thanksgiving/Dia de gracias

This week, although it was only two days long, was filled with learning and fun. The children continued to build amazing structures in various centers, using materials in creative and innovative ways. They worked on recognizing alliteration, rhyming words, and opposites. Additionally, the children used tape and scissors to make feathers for a turkey, enhancing their fine motor skills by weaving beautiful Thanksgiving placemats.


We celebrated our annualThanksgiving snack by reading the book “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey.” The children also decorated a suncatcher and enjoyed a delicious snack

together. We hope every family had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day surrounded by loved ones and enjoyed their time off.


Next week, we will learn about the materials used in building construction.

Esta semana, aunque solo duró dos días, estuvo llena de aprendizaje y diversión. Los niños continuaron construyendo estructuras increíbles en varios centros, utilizando materiales de maneras creativas e innovadoras. Trabajaron en el reconocimiento de aliteraciones, palabras que riman y opuestos. Además, los niños usaron cinta adhesiva y tijeras para hacer plumas para un pavo, mejorando sus habilidades motoras finas al tejer hermosos manteles de Acción de Gracias.


Celebramos nuestro refrigerio anual de Acción de Gracias leyendo el libro “Había una viejita que se tragó un pavo”. Los niños también decoraron un atrapa luz y disfrutaron de un delicioso refrigerio juntos. Esperamos que cada familia haya tenido un maravilloso Día de Acción de Gracias rodeada de seres queridos y disfrutó de su tiempo libre.


La próxima semana, aprenderemos sobre los materiales utilizados en la construcción.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
