This week, we explored how buildings are constructed from various materials, including bricks, glass, cement, metal, and wood. We learned that these materials contribute to the strength of buildings. When a building is not strong, it risks collapsing.

At the art table, the children used markers to create blueprints of their dream houses, employed shapes to design buildings, and utilized clay and wooden sticks to represent their creations. At the sensory table, they built structures with foam blocks, learning about balance as they constructed their designs over water.

In the literacy center, children practiced recognizing letters and sounds, matched letters, and identified missing letters. At the manipulatives table, they cut tape, used link chains to measure lengths, practiced patterns with unifix cubes, and built structures with large Legos, measuring the height of their tallest creations.

In the block area, children used a variety of blocks to build structures and then drew pictures of their designs. At the dramatic play center, they continued to experiment with different materials to construct amazing structures. 

In science, the children collaborated in teams to build towers with cups and measured their heights with yardsticks, observing which team could build the tallest tower. Throughout the week, they worked together, took turns, and persisted in their tasks.

We concluded our week with our annual visit from Santa and decorating cookies, making it a busy and exciting time for everyone!

Esta semana, exploramos cómo se construyen los edificios a partir de diversos materiales, incluidos ladrillos, vidrio, cemento, metal y madera. Aprendimos que estos materiales contribuyen a la fortaleza de los edificios. Cuando un edificio no es resistente, corre el riesgo de colapsar.

En la mesa de arte, los niños utilizaron marcadores para crear planos de sus casas de ensueño, emplearon formas para diseñar edificios y utilizaron arcilla y palitos de madera para representar sus creaciones. En la mesa sensorial, construyeron estructuras con bloques de espuma, aprendiendo sobre el equilibrio mientras construían sus diseños sobre el agua.

En el centro de alfabetización, los niños practicaron el reconocimiento de letras y sonidos, emparejaron letras e identificaron letras faltantes. En la mesa de manipulación, cortaron cinta, utilizaron cadenas de enlaces para medir longitudes, practicaron patrones con cubos unifix y construyeron estructuras con Legos grandes, midiendo la altura de sus creaciones más altas.

En el área de bloques, los niños utilizaron una variedad de bloques para construir estructuras y luego dibujaron imágenes de sus diseños. En el centro de juego dramático, continuaron experimentando con diferentes materiales para construir estructuras sorprendentes.

En ciencia, los niños colaboraron en equipos para construir torres con vasos y midieron su altura con cintas métricas, observando qué equipo podía construir la torre más alta. Durante toda la semana, trabajaron juntos, turnándose y persistiendo en sus actividades.

Concluimos nuestra semana con nuestra visita anual de Santa y decorando galletas, ¡lo que la convirtió en un tiempo ocupado y emocionante para todos!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
