Hibernation! Hibernación!
This week, we learned about hibernation. We learned that some animals such as bear, hedgehog, snake, turtles and sails hibernate during the winter season. Hibernation means a deep sleep. We read the book “The Snowy Nap” by Jan Brett and the children used clay and sticks to make hedgehogs. We learned that some animals hibernate because they need to survive the cold weather and they wake up when it is warm outside. We added teddy bears to our block area and we encouraged the children to build caves for them so they can hibernate. We added ice, salt and colored water to the sensory table. We learned that salt helps to melt the ice and that is one reason the town add a mix of salt and sand to the road when it expects snow. At the science table the children created different structures with marshmallows and toothpicks and we observe how long it will take a snowman to melt.
