Smart Apples

We spent this week learning how to make new friends, sharing materials and how to use words to invite friends to play with us. We introduce the concept of an AB pattern and we became scientific. We learned the predictions are an educated guess. We used colored water and paper towers (walking water experiment). We learned the water can travel through the paper and the paper changed color. The children predicted that the paper will change color just like a rainbow. The gingerbread man has become our favorite book in our class. We read three different versions.  We celebrated our first month by baking a gingerbread man! It was a delicious snack! This week was really short due to the hurricane Florence. We are glad our children and their families are safe and back to our school family. This week we created a visual schedule to help children to track their day and activities during the day. This schedule will allow children to establish a routine and feel secure in our classroom.  The children are working on strengthen their fine motor by painting with Q-tips, using beads, lace and playing with Legos. The children are learning to identify their name and letters. Also, this week the children explored the concepts of heavy and lighter. The children used a balance and explored objects that are heavy and lighter than a rock. The children drew pictures of their findings. We will like to thank the parents that attended our first partnership event. This week we concentrated on exploring different materials and creating our school family commitment. It is important for our school family to set commitments that allow us to  help everyone in our school family get along better, and make our school day peaceful. The children painted with watercolors, used Q-tips to paint and easel paint. The children created beautiful art pieces. We are encouraging children to describe their art. The children are strengthening their fine motor. This will allow the children to get prepare for develop writing skills. The children are playing with letters, sorting and counting materials and using shapes to make picture patterns. Due to hurricane Florence will be closed Thursday and Friday. We can’t believe this was our first week together! The children are adapting to their new routines and rituals. Each day we are adding new rituals that will help to establish a strong school family. For most of the children this is the first time at school and it is hard to be away from home. But we are sure with some time the tears will fade away. Remember it takes 21 days for a young child to adapt to a new routine. This week we spent our time exploring the different centers and teaching the children how to use the materials. Also, the children are making new friends and building relationship with teachers. We are sure this will be a great year! We are excited to share this year with each child and their family.
