Our first week! Nuestra primera semana!

We can’t believe this was our first week together! The children are adapting to their new routines and rituals. Each day we are adding new rituals that will help to establish a strong school family. For most of the children this is the first time at school and it is hard to be away from home. But we are sure with some time the tears will fade away. Remember it takes 21 days for a young child to adapt to a new routine. This week we spent our time exploring the different centers and teaching the children how to use the materials. Also, the children are making new friends and building relationship with teachers. We are sure this will be a great year! We are excited to share this year with each child and their family. Thanks for the support during this first week! 

No podemos creer que esta fue nuestra primera semana juntos! Los niños se están adaptado a  su nueva rutina y rituales. Cada día estamos agregando un Nuevo ritual que ayudara a establecer una fuerte familia escolar. Para algunos de los niños esta es la primera vez en la escuela y es duro esta lejos de sus hogares. Pero estamos seguros que con el tiempo las lagrima van a desaparecer. Recuerde que toma 21 días para que los niños se adapten a una nueva rutina. Esta semana la pasamos explorando los diferentes centros de aprendizaje y enseñando a los niños como usar los materiales. También, los niños esta hacienda nuevas amistades y construyendo nuevas relaciones con las maestras. Estamos seguro que este ano va a hacer grandioso! Estamos emocionadas de compartir ano con cada uno de los niños y sus familias. Gracias por el apoyo durante esta semana!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
