Smart Apples

This week was super short due to early release and snow day. The children continue learning about the function of bones and how our skeleton help us to move. We discuss how our skin protect our bones. The children use playdough and plastic straw to create their representation of a skeleton with skin. Also, the children use q-tip to create their representation of skeleton. It is time for a second parent-teacher conference. I am looking forward to sitting down with each of you and showing you how much progress your child has made.

This week we started our study on the human body. We transformed our dramatic area. It was great to see the children recollecting and connecting information with previous experiences. The children pretended to take patients and they apply bandages and shots. At art table the children created mat man and a face. We discuss our senses and body parts. At science, the children label body parts and explored a skeleton. Also, the children sorted by baby, children and adults. At sensory, the children used magnetic body parts and we talked about how our heart and brain are connect by veins. The children play with red water beads and a plastic ball. We discuss how our blood has white and red blood cells and sometimes when white blood cells are high that can indicate an infection or disease. The children use tongs to remove white blood cells. This week we celebrated our learning on winter. We read the book “The Mitten” and we added prompts to our library center and the children retell the story. Also, the children created beautiful mittens. The children painted with frozen paint. It was fun to talk about how different liquid can go from liquid state to solid. The children practice taking and requesting a turn. We play Pengoloo, the children practice recognizing colors and count 1:1 correspondence. The children are writing letters and numbers. We added writing tools and paper to centers. The children are writing words and sound it words. The children are counting 1:1 correspondence, writing numbers and learning about simple adding operations. The children practice drawing Mat man. It is a fun way to teach children to draw a person with recognizable body parts. On Friday, we had our craft and cupcake day. It was fun to share time with parents and having a delicious cupcake.
