Smart Apples

This week was full of new learning! Our class continue learning about pumpkins. The children explored the inside of the pumpkins. They used a magnifying glass to explore the seeds, pulp and strands. The children drew pictures of their observation. At the art table, the children used scissors to cut a pumpkin cutout, use different materials to decorate their pumpkins and use pumpkin candy and toothpicks to create awesome structures. We added plastic pumpkins to our block area. The children added pumpkins to their structure. At the sensory table, the children used golf tees and a hammer, they practiced their eye-hand coordination. We celebrated our learning with our annual fieldtrip to Hill Ridge Farms. It was so much fun sharing with each family. We want to thank  the Griffin family for donating a pumpkin to our class and Mrs. Loftis for reading two wonderful books to our class!

This week we learned about pumpkins. The children explored pumpkins and gourds at the science table. The children painted their representation of a pumpkins and practice their fine motor skills by cutting a cutout of a pumpkin. The children found out that pumpkins can float just like apples. The children continue learning about patterns and they sorted by color. The children continue to play with letters, and they are writing their name and words. The children are using flannel board to retell their favorite book or songs. Next week, we will continue our study on Fall. The children are counting the days for our field trip to Hill Ridge farms. 

We continue learning about Fall! We learned why leaves changes colors. We learned that chlorophyll make the leaves green during summer and spring, but during fall the days are short and the trees stop producing chlorophyll and that is the reason we see another pigment such as orange, brown, red and yellow. The children created beautiful collages with the leaves thy collected in their neighborhood. We posted outside our classroom. Also, the children used fall color paintings and oil pastel to make representation of their ideas of fall leaves. At the science table, we measure our height with leaves and at dramatic play the children rake some fall leaves. Friday was a special day; we receive a special visitor, Ruger, a service dog. We discuss how petting a pet can relax our body and calm our emotions. We learned how to identify how dogs can be happy and how to treat them with kindness and love.
