Smart Apples

This week at table games, the children engaged in building bridges with Legos to cross a river. It was interested listening to the children talk about their plans and test their bridges with animals and wood people. Also, they created patterns, played with puzzles, followed directions to build structures and sort objects by sizes. At block center, the children continued building amazing bridges and structures. At literacy letters, the children matched letters and played with letter sounds. At science, they continued building bridges with different materials and with a variety of small blocks. At art center, we learned about Monet and his panting “Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies” and the children used paint and dot paint to create their representations. Remember next week it is spring break, after our spring bring the children decided to learn about Flowers. This week, we expanded our study on bridges.  We learned that engineers design buildings. People uses bridges to go to one point to another. Bridges help us to cross water and roads. At science, the children experimented with cups, wooden popsicles and tape to create different bridge. The children tried their bridge strengths by moving the table and putting things on their bridges. At art table, the children created their representation of bridges and use play dough to create bridges and spell words. At blocks center, the children looked at pictures of different bridges and used a variety of blocks to create their representation of their own bridge. This week it was a short but full of learning. The children engaged in building activities and used research to build new structures. At table games, the children engaged in taking turns and sharing materials. At literary center, the children spell words and played with letters and sounds. At science, our little scientists explored magnet materials around our class. It was excited to see the new discoveries. At art, the children painted with watercolors and they worked in small groups to make a building. They discuss what type of building they wanted to make and work together to make two amazing building. Also, they drew pictures of their buildings. The children had fun playing hopscotch and played with chalk. We definitely loved the warm weather. Next week, we will expand our unit to bridges.
