Smart Apples

This week was about celebrating our traditions. Thanks to the parents for decorating a beautiful winter tree. The children spend this week by decorating stocking boots and trees. We learned that during this time of the year, some people decorate their house with lights, music and different Christmas decorations. We watch small videos about decorations in our town. The children love it! We welcome Winter with our pajamas on! We enjoyed a relaxing day by watching the Polar Express and eating popcorn. This week, we concentrated on learning about 3D shapes and how we can use it to build different structures. The children built different structures using different types of blocks. The children used rulers to create their own blue print. Also, we added blocks to our sensory table and the children learned about equilibrium and strong foundation. The children used The 3 Little Pigs flannel board to retell the story. This book is becoming one of our favorite books. The children create patterns with lace and beads. We encouraged the children to create their own patterns. We continue learning about buildings. The children will tower with blocks taller as their height. Also, they built towers with cups at the science center. At art center, the children used blocks to paint buildings, used wood sticks to make a house and paint a blueprint. We learned that a blueprint is a plan used to build an office, houses or any structures. The children drew or traced different shapes to plan their blueprint. Also, the children are practicing writing words in their journal related to buildings. On Friday, parents and the children built a gingerbread house. This week was a short week; we started our study on buildings. We transformed our dramatic play into a construction site. The children explored different materials and built with small blocks and they connected pipes. The children used geometric shapes to make their representation of buildings and drew pictures of their houses. We read the book “The 3 little Pigs “ and we discuss the different materials that construction used to build a house. We added foam blocks to block center. We are encouraging the children to use a variety of blocks to create different structures. Also, this week was parent- teacher conferences. Thanks to the parents that attended and discussed the progress of their child and created new goals according to the needs of their children. Remember we are a team! This week was really short. The children created beautiful placemat for our annual thanksgiving lunch and we discuss what they are thankful for. We are thankful for each child and their family. We appreciate the support and partnership through these few months. It was great to share a special lunch with the families! Happy Thanksgiving!  Esta semana fue corta. This week we keep learning about the bakery. The children used different shapes to design their own cake.  The children sorted cookies by size and colors. The children counted one to one correspondence at the sensory table. The children are practicing to draw a person and body parts. The children love to build mat man. Also, we learn a new poem 10 little donuts and decorated a donut at the art table. The children continue learning to build friendships with peers. This week we learned about the different tools that a baker used to create delicious bread and desserts. The children used rolling pings and cups of different sizes to paint and create different patterns. The children worked in their visual discrimination by matching cookies.  We read the book “The Gingerbread Baby” and the children decorated their own gingerbread cut out. The children continued to pretend to bake delicious donuts and cookies. We are learning to share materials and play with friends.  The children continue learning about patterns, playing with letters and sorting materials. We finished this week by baking delicious chocolate cupcakes. The children decorated them with their favorite topics. It was delicious!
