Pumpkins! Calabazas!

This week was all about pumpkins. We started our week with a wonderful fieldtrip to Ridge Hill Farm. We had a wonderful time! We rode the train and hayride truck. The children picked pumpkins and spent time playing in the different attractions such as: big slice, explored the maze and the different bouncy toys. In the classroom, we practice our fine motor by hammering golf tees into a pumpkin and using the scissors. We used snap cubes to measure the height of different pumpkins. The children continued creating and following different patterns. We explored the inside of a pumpkin, we used words to describe the inside and outside of a pumpkin. Also, we explored 3D art by building different structures with candy pumpkins and toothpicks. The children decided that our next topic of study would be bakery! Esta semana fue acerca las calabazas. Leaves and pumpkins! Hojas y calabazas!

This week we continue learning about leaves and pumpkins. The children used tips paint to representation of pumpkins. We learned that the pumpkin life cycle starts when pumpkin seeds begin to grow into a pumpkin sprout. The yellow flowers turn into small green pumpkins. The green pumpkin grows and grows and turns orange. The class started to practice their fine motor by using handwriting without tears. We are learning about different lines and scribbles. The children are learning about patterns. The children created patterns with apples and used the smart board to copy and follow patterns. At dramatic center, we added leaves and rakes; the children enjoyed raking leaves and pretended to bake delicious apples pies. Next week, we will continue learning about pumpkins. Leaves! Hojas!

This was a short week due to Hurricane Michael. This week we discussed why the leaves are changing colors. We learned that chlorophyll help leaves to stay green during the spring and summer. During the fall season the days are shorter and the tree stop producing food that travels to braches and leaves and that is the reason leaves change colors during fall. We read the book “Leaf Man” and the children created their own leaf man. The children sorted leaves by color and size. Also, the children used oil pastel to make their representation of fall leaves. Apples! Manzanas!

Fall is here! This week we learned about apples. The children pretended to pick apples and count and sort apples and they followed a recipe to bake a delicious pie. The children used different materials at art center to create their representation of apples and we used real apples to stamp. We are learning about predictions. The children predicted the change in apples when they are submerging in different liquids (soda, vinegar, lemon juice). Some of the children predicted that apples would change colors. We found the lemon juice will help to keep apples white and fresh. Also, we experimented with apples and water. We found out apples float because they are 25% air. The children sorted apples by color, size and different attributes. We had a delicious tasting party. The children decided they prefer apple juice to apple nutri grain bars. Thanks to the parents for the wonderful donation of apple products. We celebrate our learning by preparing delicious Fried apples!  El Otoño e...
