Healthy Food! Comidas Saludables!

This week was about healthy foods.   The children continue to play in dramatic play at a grocery store. The children wrote grocery list, we practice math skills with money and we pretended to pack grocery products. The children used a microscope to explore different fruits. The children drew pictures of their observations.   Also, the children compared and measured bananas and plantains. We use rulers to measure them. The children decided to make a fruit smoothie. The children wash, cut and blended delicious blueberries, strawberries and banana smoothies. The children enjoyed tasting the delicious smoothies. The next we will learn about bakery! We begin our study in healthy food. We set up a grocery store in the dramatic area. The children pretended to buy grocery. The children represented the different roles and shared experiences about going to the grocery store. The children used play dough and straw to represent our body. We learned the importance of eating fruits and vegetables. We learned that food is fuel for our body. We painted with different vegetables and fruits. Also, we learned that some fruits and vegetables come from other countries such as Italy, Argentina and Mexico. We would like to thank the parents for helping us to collect products for our grocery store! Dental Health! Salud dental!

We continued our study in dental health. The children used construction paper to create representation of gums and teeth.     This week was a STEM activity. The children experimented with spaghetti and they found out that spaghetti is strong.   Spaghetti can hold 8 wooden blocks.   We learned about balance, they tried to build with foam blocks on water, we found out that blocks can float but it was impossible to build on top of water.   We experimented with the light table; children used blocks and cups to experiment with mixed colors and learned about different colors. Dental Health! Salud Dental

We continued our study on Dental health.   The children made teeth with play dough and we discussed the importance of flossing and how it prevents cavities. The children used pieces of foam and toothpicks to create different structures.   The children painted with finger paint. It was fun to mix and create new colors. We practice using scissors by cutting yarn at the sensory table. We finished our week by tasting different flavors of milk. Dental Health! Salud Dental

This was a very busy week. We started our study on dental health. We transformed our dramatic area in a dentist office. The children explored different dentist tools and played with mirrors. The children looked at their teeth and drew pictures of their observations. We discuss that young children have 10 teeth on the top and 10 on the bottom and they are called “baby teeth”.   We experimented with eggs and different liquids and how it affects our teeth. The children used toothbrushes and toothpaste to learn the importance of brushing our teeth.   We celebrated Dr. Seuss birthday by reading Green Eggs and Ham. Our class cooked some delicious green eggs and ham. Also, this week was our second field trip; it was fun to explore the diverse areas in the Marbles museum. Esta semana fue muy ocupada.
