Flowers & Gardening/ Flores y la jardinería

This week we continue learning about flowers and gardening. We learned that some vegetables are flowers too such as broccoli and cauliflower. Broccoli and cauliflower can be yellow and purple too! We planted basil that is a herb that people use to add flavor to their dishes. At art table, the children used Q-Tips to paint flowers, used vegetables to stamp, painted their favorite vegetable and fruit and used paper plates to make a flower. At manipulative table, the children created a variety of patterns by using beans. At science, the children observed vegetables and drew pictures of their observation. At writing table, the children wrote uppercase letters. At literacy table, the children continued practicing recognizing letters and producing their sounds and recognizing opposites. We learned about the letter “Y” and the children played with a yo-yo. At blocks, they continued building together and practice taking turns and sharing materials. We continue learning about flowers and gardening. We learned that worms are important for gardens, because they improve soil structure, aerate the soil, and enhance nutrients availability, ultimately leading to better plant growth. Additionally, worms break down organic matter, producing rich compost called worm castings, which serves as a natural fertilizer. At science, the children observed their beans changes that they planted in containers. Also, they observed how the grass is growing.  At writing table, the children drew pictures of the teachers, wrote teachers’ names and match letters. At manipulative, the children used Legos to make flowers and used pattern blocks to make flowers. At art, the children painted sunflowers, used construction paper to make flowers and ladybugs.  At sensory table, the children played with beans, small rakes and put together flowers.
