Smart Apples

This was really short! The children continued to play with different blocks and created representations of their structures. Also, the children prepare for our annual thanksgiving lunch. The children made beautiful placemats. The lunch was a success. We had a great time with each family. Thanks for sharing with us the delicious drinks and desserts. We are thankful for each child in our class and their wonderful family. We are thankful for our school family! 

This week we began our study on buildings. We went around our school building and observe special features about our school building such as: numbers, letters, shapes of the roof, how many windows, doors and playgrounds. The children drew pictures of their house, created shapes with playdough, used wood sticks to make a house and they used paint to paint different types of buildings. We transformed our dramatic area into a construction site. The children explored different tools, created structures with blocks and drew pictures of buildings. At science table, the children built with cups. We learned about balance and strong foundation. At blocks, the children continue to create amazing structures. We added books about buildings around the world and the children are exploring them and created their representation. We read The Three Little Pigs and the children loved it! 

This week the children use different shapes to design their own cake and painted using kitchen tools and decorated a donut. We discuss their favorite cake and donuts and the different stamps and patterns. At science, the children are learning how to use standard measurements (rulers and measuring tapes). The children measure gingerbread cookies and wrote numbers. Also, they sorted cookies by size and practice their visual discrimination by matching patterns. At sensory table, the children played with a mix of flour, chocolates, vegetables and marshmallows. They played with measuring cups and muffin trays. The children decided to bake vanilla cupcakes. The children help to measure ingredients and to place liners in the muffin pans. The children decorated their own cupcake. It was a delicious treat! Our next study will be on Buildings !

  This week was about the science behind baking. We learned that yeast, baking soda and baking powder help the liquid batter to get spongy. When the liquid batter goes to the oven carbon oxide is release and that makes them grow up and that is one of the reason bread and cake have little tiny holes. Also, we experimented with milk, food coloring and dish detergent. We learned that milk contains water, sugar and fat and when it gets in contact with dish detergent it separates the water and the fat. At art table, the children tasted condescend milk and painted with it. Also, they used different size cups to create beautiful designs and use rolling pins to paint. The children pretended to bake different breads, cookies, pies and cupcakes. At the sensory table, the children used tongs to sort different poms-poms. The children are learning to create simple graphs and counting 1:1 object. At blocks, the children created amazing structures. It was a fun week!   ...
