Leaves/Las hojas
This week, we learned about leaves and how they change through the fall season. We learned that the tree stops producing chlorophyll during the fall, and the other pigments come to the leaves. The tree stops producing it because the days are short and begin to get cold. The children sorted all the items they collected around the yard or neighborhood. At the art center, the children used oil pastels to color their representation of leaves, made leaf collages, created a tree with construction paper and paint, and played with playdough. At blocks, the children built with different blocks and measured their height with blocks. At dramatic play, the children learned that some leaves are used for tea and raked leaves.
