Apples/Las manzanas

This week, we continue our study on apples. We learned that apples grow on tree and they have seeds. The children made predictions how many seed will found in apple and how many blocks equal the weight of apples. We are learning the predictions making educated guesses about what will happen next, based on clues. At art center, the children use scissor to cut an apple and arrange their name, make a stained apple and play with playdough. At blocks, the children make ramp with gutter and roll apples. They found out heigh of the ramp affect the speed of the apple rolling down.  At dramatic play, the children continue pretending to pick apples, sort and count apples and bake apples pie. At sensory, the children play with oatmeal, pie pan and small apples and tongs. At science, the children the children practice apples patterns and measure their drawing with apples. At manipulate, the children draw apples patterns and make the letters L with Legos. At literacy the children sort letters by apples colors. Next week we continue learning about fall by exploring leaves and change in the environment.

Esta semana, continuamos nuestro estudio sobre las manzanas. Aprendimos que las manzanas crecen en los árboles y tienen semillas. Los niños hicieron predicciones sobre cuántas semillas encontrarían en una manzana y cuántos bloques equivalen al peso de las manzanas. Estamos aprendiendo a hacer predicciones: conjeturas fundamentadas sobre lo que sucederá después, basadas en pistas. En el centro de arte, los niños usan tijeras para cortar una manzana, ordenar sus nombres, hacer una manzana teñida y jugar con plastilina. En bloques, los niños hacen una rampa con un canalón y ruedan manzanas. Descubrieron que la altura de la rampa afecta la velocidad a la que la manzana rueda hacia abajo. En el juego dramático, los niños continúan fingiendo recoger manzanas, clasificar y contar manzanas, y hornear pastel de manzana. En sensorial, los niños juegan con avena, moldes para pastel, manzanas pequeñas y pinzas. En ciencias, los niños practican patrones de manzanas y miden sus dibujos con manzanas. En manipulativo, los niños dibujan patrones de manzanas y forman la letra L con Legos. En lectoescritura, los niños clasifican las letras por colores de manzana. La próxima semana, continuaremos aprendiendo sobre el otoño explorando las hojas y los cambios en el medio ambiente.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
