Smart Apples

We began our study on Flowers. This week, we transformed our dramatic play into a flower shop. The children had the opportunity to sort flowers by color and made different arraignments. The children planted black beans; we will observe the germination process. We learned that seeds have a baby plant inside called embryos. The children explored real flowers and we leaned the different parts of a flower and the importance of roots and how plants and flowers produce food. The children counted sunflower seeds and identify numbers. We added flowers and foam in the sensory and we pretend to create beautiful flower arraignments and we added potting soil, plastic pots and shovels. It was fun to experiment with different material. This week we concluded our study in food and bakery. The children continued to pretend to bake cookies, cupcakes and different types of bread. The children made and baked their own bread. We measured and mixed ingredients in a bag and knead the dough. It was fun and delicious. The children learned how the yeast helped the bread to grow. We made an experiment with a balloon and yeast in the bottle. We observed how the balloon filled with air. We practiced our pre- writing skills by writing letters in flour.   We concluded our week by baking delicious chocolate croissants and reading Little Yellow and Little Blue by Leo Lionni. This week was all about bread! We transformed our dramatic play in a Bakery.   The children pretended to bake bread, cookies, pretzels and donuts. The children used salty play dough to made different bread.   We made a delicious butter! We used heavy whipping cream, the children observe how the heavy whipping cream change physical stage from liquid to solid. Also, we painted bread with colored milk and we were delighted with our delicious butter.   Our sensorial table was an experiment with new tools and different ingredients. The children used a whish and eggbeater to make bubbles and they mixed water and flour to make bread dough. The children practiced their fine motor by using scissors to cut a cupcake and decorate it. We painted with condensed milk that was a sweet experience for the children. We finished our week by building structures with jellybeans and toothpicks. Next week, it is our spring break!
