Flowers! Las flores!

We began our study on Flowers. This week, we transformed our dramatic play into a flower shop. The children had the opportunity to sort flowers by color and made different arraignments. The children planted black beans; we will observe the germination process. We learned that seeds have a baby plant inside called embryos. The children explored real flowers and we leaned the different parts of a flower and the importance of roots and how plants and flowers produce food. The children counted sunflower seeds and identify numbers. We added flowers and foam in the sensory and we pretend to create beautiful flower arraignments and we added potting soil, plastic pots and shovels. It was fun to experiment with different material. The children practice their fine motor by creating different flowers with different material.

Empezamos nuestro estudio de las flores. Esta semana transformamos nuestra are de dramático en una florería. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de clasificar flores por colores y hacer arreglos de flores. Los niños plantaron granos negros, observaremos el proceso de germinación. Los niños  exploraron flores y aprendimos las diferentes parte de una flor y la importancia de las raíces y como las plantas y flores producen comida. Los niños contaron semillas de girasoles e identificaron números. Añadimos flores y anime a nuestra mesa sensorial y pretendimos crear hermosos arreglos de flores y también  añadimos  tierra, potes para sembrar y palas. Fue divertidos experimentar con diferentes materiales. Los niños practicaron su motricidad fina creando diferente flores con diferentes materiales.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
