Smart Apples

This week, we continue our study on flowers. At science center, we created a sequence of how plants grow, we explored the part of a flower and we explored sunflowers and drew pictures of our observations. It was excited to see the children compare flowers and talk about which is their favorite flower. We created a graph and we found that the sunflower is the most favorite flower in our class. Also, we planted our black beans and the children explored the root and that some plants have leaves. Next week, the children will be watering and observing the changes in their plants. At manipulative center, we played with Legos. The children work really hard on creating Spring patterns. They counted 1:1 correspondence, sorted by colors and created a figure. This week was full of hands on activities. At science, we learned that plants are living things and that they breath. We put a leaf in water, and we observed how the leaf produce bubbles full of oxygen. Also, we learned that water traveled through the steam, the water is able to move from the bottom to the top. We use carnation and colored water. We decided to leave over the weekend, and we will observe the final changes on Monday. At manipulative center, the children used snap cubes to measure the height of flowers and they drew pictures and wrote numbers. At dramatic play, the children continue to play with flowers and making flower arrangements. At block center, the children added flowers to their structures.
