Flowers/ La flores

This week was full of hands on activities. At science, we learned that plants are living things and that they breath. We put a leaf in water, and we observed how the leaf produce bubbles full of oxygen. Also, we learned that water traveled through the steam, the water is able to move from the bottom to the top. We use carnation and colored water. We decided to leave over the weekend, and we will observe the final changes on Monday. At manipulative center, the children used snap cubes to measure the height of flowers and they drew pictures and wrote numbers. At dramatic play, the children continue to play with flowers and making flower arrangements. At block center, the children added flowers to their structures. Also, this week we celebrated the Week of the Young Child, we danced, planted flowers, ate a delicious snack, we talked about our favorite things to do with our families and the children and their family decorated a butterfly.  Our online students, they planted seeds and they are keeping their observation in their journal, played with play dough and made a science experiment with celery and flowers.

 

Esta semana estuvo llena de actividades prácticas. En ciencia, aprendimos que las plantas son seres vivos y respiran. Metimos una hoja en agua y observamos cómo la hoja produce burbujas llenas de oxígeno. Además, aprendimos que el agua viaja a través del vapor, el agua puede moverse de abajo hacia arriba. Usamos clavel y agua coloreada. Decidimos dejar los clavel en el agua coloreada durante el fin de semana y observaremos los cambios finales el lunes. En el centro de manipulación, los niños usaron cubos para medir la altura de las flores y dibujaron y escribieron números. En el juego dramático, los niños continúan jugando con flores y haciendo arreglos florales. En el centro de bloques, los niños agregaron flores a sus estructuras. Además, esta semana celebramos la Semana del Niño Pequeño, bailamos, plantamos flores, comimos un delicioso refrigerio, hablamos de nuestras cosas favoritas para hacer con nuestras familias y los niños y su familia decoraron una mariposa. Nuestros estudiantes en-línea, plantaron semillas y mantienen sus observaciones en su diario, jugaron con plastilina e hicieron un experimento científico con apio y flores

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
