Bakery! Panadería!

This week we learned about the different tools that a baker used to create delicious bread and desserts. The children used rolling pings and cups of different sizes to paint and create different patterns. The children worked in their visual discrimination by matching cookies.  We read the book “The Gingerbread Baby” and the children decorated their own gingerbread cut out. The children continued to pretend to bake delicious donuts and cookies. We are learning to share materials and play with friends.  The children continue learning about patterns, playing with letters and sorting materials. We finished this week by baking delicious chocolate cupcakes. The children decorated them with their favorite topics. It was delicious!
Esta semana aprendimos acerca las diferente utensilios que un panadero usa para crear deliciosa panes y postres. Los niños usaron rodillos y copas de diferentes tamaño para pintar y crear diferente patrones. Los niños trabajaron sus discriminación visual creando la mitad correcta de la galleta. Leímos el libro “The gingerbread baby” y los niños decoraron su propio hombre de jengibre. Los niños pretendieron hornear deliciosa donas y galletas. Estamos aprendiendo a compartir juguetes y jugar con amigos. Los niños continuaron aprendiendo acerca patrones, jugar con letras y clasificar materiales.  Finalizamos esta semana horneando delicioso ponqué de chocolate. Los niños decoraron su ponqué con su tópico favorito. Fue delicioso!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
