Bakery! Panadería!

This week we start our study about bakery. We transformed our dramatic play into a bakery. The children pretended to bake cookies, donuts, pretzels and their favorite bread. We learn that the bakery needs to know about math and chemistry. The bakers found the right combination of ingredients to create delicious bread, pastries and many other desserts. The children use toothpicks and jellybeans to build different structures. The children practice their fine motor skills by using an eggbeater and whisk at the sensory table and using scissors to cut a cupcake. The children painted with condensed colored milk. It was sweet! Also, we enjoyed Halloween by treat or trick around the school. Thank to the parents that brought delicious treats for our wonderful party!
Esta semana empezamos nuestro estudio en panadería. Transformamos nuestra área de dramático en una panadería. Los niños pretendieron hornear galletas, donas and sus pan favorito. Aprendimos que en la panadería necesitan saber matemática y química. Los panaderos encuentra la combinación perfecta de ingredientes para crear deliciosos panes, dulces y otros postres. Los niños usaron palillos de dientes y jellybeans para construir diferentes estructuras.  Los niños practicaron su motricidad fina usando batidores en la mesa sensorial y usaron tijeras para cortar un ponqué. También, los niños pintaron con leche condesada de colores. Fue muy dulce! También los niños disfrutaron ir a pedir dulces alrededor de la escuela. Gracias a los padres que trajeron deliciosos dulces para nuestra maravillosa fiesta!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
