Buildings! Edificios!

This week was a short week; we started our study on buildings. We transformed our dramatic play into a construction site. The children explored different materials and built with small blocks and they connected pipes. The children used geometric shapes to make their representation of buildings and drew pictures of their houses. We read the book “The 3 little Pigs “ and we discuss the different materials that construction used to build a house. We added foam blocks to block center. We are encouraging the children to use a variety of blocks to create different structures. Also, this week was parent- teacher conferences. Thanks to the parents that attended and discussed the progress of their child and created new goals according to the needs of their children. Remember we are a team!

Esta semana fue una semana corta, empezamos nuestro estudio en los edificios. Transformamos nuestra área de dramáticos en una oficina de construcción. Los niños Explorar diferente materiales y construyeron con bloques pequeños y conectaron  pipes plásticas. Los niños usaron figuras geométricas para hacer sus representaciones edificios y dibujaron sus casas. Leímos el libro “los 3 cochinitos” y discutimos los diferentes materiales de construcción que se usan para construir casas. Añadimos bloques de foam a nuestro área de bloques. Los niños esta usando una variedad de bloques para construir diferentes estructuras. También, esta semana fueron la conferencia de padres y maestros. Gracias a los padres que atendieron y discutieron el progreso de sus hijos y creamos nuevas metas de acuerdo a las necesidades de sus hijos. Recuerde somos un equipo de trabajo!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
