Buildings! Edificios!

We continue learning about buildings. The children will tower with blocks taller as their height. Also, they built towers with cups at the science center. At art center, the children used blocks to paint buildings, used wood sticks to make a house and paint a blueprint. We learned that a blueprint is a plan used to build an office, houses or any structures. The children drew or traced different shapes to plan their blueprint. Also, the children are practicing writing words in their journal related to buildings. On Friday, parents and the children built a gingerbread house. Thanks to the parents who attended our partnership day and had fun building a delicious gingerbread house!

Continuamos aprendiendo acerca de los edificios. Los niños construyeron torres con bloques altas como  ellos. También, Construyeron torres con copas en la mesa de ciencia. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron bloques para  pintar edificios, usaron paletas de madera para a hacer casas y pintaron un plano. Aprendimos que los planos  son representación que ayuda a construir oficinas, casas o cualquier estructuras. Los niños dibujaron o trazaron diferentes figuras geométricas para representar un plano. También, los niños están practicando escribir en sus diario palabras que se relaciona con edificios. El viernes, los padres y los niños ayudaron a construir casas de jengibre. Gracias a los padres que atendieron a nuestro de día de colaboración y se divirtieron construyendo deliciosas casas de jengibre!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
