Bridges/Los puentes

This week at table games, the children engaged in building bridges with Legos to cross a river. It was interested listening to the children talk about their plans and test their bridges with animals and wood people. Also, they created patterns, played with puzzles, followed directions to build structures and sort objects by sizes. At block center, the children continued building amazing bridges and structures. At literacy letters, the children matched letters and played with letter sounds. At science, they continued building bridges with different materials and with a variety of small blocks. At art center, we learned about Monet and his panting “Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies” and the children used paint and dot paint to create their representations. Remember next week it is spring break, after our spring bring the children decided to learn about Flowers.

Esta semana, en los juegos de mesa, los niños se dedicaron a construir puentes con Legos para cruzar un río. Me interesó escuchar a los niños hablar sobre sus planes y probar sus puentes con animales y persona de madera. Además, crearon patrones, jugaron con rompecabezas, siguieron instrucciones para construir estructuras y clasificar objetos por tamaños. En la area bloques, los niños continuaron construyendo puentes y estructuras increíbles. En la area alfabetización, los niños emparejaron letras y jugaron con los sonidos de las letras. En ciencias, continuaron construyendo puentes con diferentes materiales y con una variedad de pequeños bloques. En el centro de arte, aprendimos sobre Monet y su pintura “Puente sobre un estanque de lilies” y los niños usaron pintura y pintura de puntos para crear sus representaciones. Recuerde que la semana que viene son las vacaciones de primavera, después de nuestra primavera, los niños decidieron aprender sobre las flores.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
