Bridges/ Los puentes

This week, we expanded our study on bridges.  We learned that engineers design buildings. People uses bridges to go to one point to another. Bridges help us to cross water and roads. At science, the children experimented with cups, wooden popsicles and tape to create different bridge. The children tried their bridge strengths by moving the table and putting things on their bridges. At art table, the children created their representation of bridges and use play dough to create bridges and spell words. At blocks center, the children looked at pictures of different bridges and used a variety of blocks to create their representation of their own bridge. Next week, we will discuss the different types of bridges!


Esta semana ampliamos nuestro estudio sobre puentes. Aprendimos que los ingenieros diseñan edificios. La gente usa puentes para ir de un punto a otro. Los puentes nos ayudan a cruzar el agua y las carreteras. En ciencias, los niños experimentaron con tazas, paletas de madera y cinta adhesiva para crear diferentes puentes. Los niños probaron sus fortalezas en los puentes moviendo la mesa y poniendo cosas en sus puentes. En la mesa de arte, los niños crearon su representación de puentes y usaron plastilina para crear puentes y deletrear palabras. En el centro de bloques, los niños miraron imágenes de diferentes puentes y usaron una variedad de bloques para crear la representación de su propio puente. ¡La próxima semana discutiremos los diferentes tipos de puentes!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
