This week continue our research in buildings. We talked and discuss the different materials buildings are made of. It was interesting to look at buildings around the world and research with materials used to build them. Also, we read another version of the Three Little Pigs: An architectural tale. We compare the books and the different materials the pigs used to build their house. The children continue building with different materials. It is excited to see how they are working together to build tall towers or castles. At art table, we drew our representation of our favorite buildings around the world. The children talked about the features they notice and created their representation. Also, they use popsicles and modeling clay to create different structures. We continue working on recognize letters, counting 1:1 correspondence and investigate objects around our classroom. Our students at home, they built with cups and used measuring tape to measure the  tower, built structures with marshmallows, drew blue prints and made a tunnel with blocks. Our class decided to expand our study to bridges. 

 

Esta semana continuamos nuestra investigación en edificios. Hablamos y discutimos los diferentes materiales de los que están hechos los edificios. Fue interesante observar los edificios de todo el mundo e investigar con los materiales utilizados para construirlos. Además, leemos otra versión de Los tres cerditos: un cuento arquitectónico. Comparamos los libros y los diferentes materiales que usaron los cerdos para construir su casa. Los niños continúan construyendo con diferentes materiales. Está emocionado de ver cómo están trabajando juntos para construir torres o castillos altos. En la mesa de arte, dibujamos nuestra representación de nuestros edificios favoritos en todo el mundo. Los niños hablaron sobre las características que notaron y crearon su representación. Además, usaron paletas y plastilina para crear diferentes estructuras. Seguimos trabajando en reconocer letras, contando correspondencia 1:1 e investigamos objetos alrededor de nuestra clase. Nuestros estudiantes en casa, construyeron con tazas y usaron cinta métrica para medir la torre, construyeron estructuras con malvaviscos, dibujaron planos e hicieron un túnel con bloques. Nuestra clase decidió expandir nuestro estudio a puentes.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
