This week it was a short but full of learning. The children engaged in building activities and used research to build new structures. At table games, the children engaged in taking turns and sharing materials. At literary center, the children spell words and played with letters and sounds. At science, our little scientists explored magnet materials around our class. It was excited to see the new discoveries. At art, the children painted with watercolors and they worked in small groups to make a building. They discuss what type of building they wanted to make and work together to make two amazing building. Also, they drew pictures of their buildings. The children had fun playing hopscotch and played with chalk. We definitely loved the warm weather. Next week, we will expand our unit to bridges. Get ready for some amazing bridges! 

Esta semana fue breve pero llena de aprendizaje. Los niños participaron en actividades de construcción y utilizaron la investigación para construir nuevas estructuras. En los juegos de mesa, los niños se turnaron para compartir materiales. En el centro literario, los niños deletrean palabras y juegan con letras y sonidos. En ciencia, nuestros pequeños científicos exploraron materiales magnéticos en nuestra clase. Estaba emocionado de ver los nuevos descubrimientos. En arte, los niños pintaron con acuarelas y trabajaron en pequeños grupos para hacer un edificio. Discuten qué tipo de edificio querían hacer y trabajar juntos para hacer dos edificios increíbles. Además, hicieron dibujos de sus edificios. Los niños se divirtieron jugando a la rayuela y con tiza. Definitivamente nos encantó el clima cálido. La semana que viene ampliaremos nuestra unidad a puentes. ¡Prepárate para unos puentes increíbles!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
