Dinosaurs! Dinosaurios!

This week was full of learning and fun! We practice our fine motor by cutting a stegosaurs and using small triangles to create patterns. The children created AB and ABC patterns. The children painted our volcano and decorated our dinosaur habitat. It is great to see how the children work in small groups to reach a common goal. Also, the children painted with dinosaurs and used straws to paint. The children had fun with our floating experiment. The children use straw and paper to create a funnel to blow to make the cotton float. We investigated how tall was the T-Rex? We found out the T-Rex was 40 feet tall. We used toilet paper to measure 40 feet. The children laid  down beside the toilet paper and we found out that our class height is taller than a T-Rex but our individual height is smaller than a T-Rex. We made our volcano erupt; it was excited to see the children observe our volcano. We celebrated our learning by cutting dinosaur bones and decorating them to create a T-Rex. We also celebrated World Down Syndrome Day! By wearing colorful socks! The children decided our next topic would be bakery and ice cream shop.

Esta semana estuvo llena de aprendizaje y diversión! Practicamos nuestra motricidad fina cortando a estegosaurio  y usamos triángulos para crea patrones. Los niños crearon patrones AB y ABC . Los niños pintaron el volcán y lo decoraron nuestra habita de dinosaurio. Fue genial ver como los niños trabajaron el grupos pequeños para alcanzar una meta en común. También, los niños pintaron con dinosaurios y usaron pajilla para pintar. Los niños usaron pajilla y papel para crear un cono  para hacer flotar el algodón. Investigamos cuan altos eran los  t-rex? Encontramos que los t-rex son 40 pies de alto. Los niños se acostaron al lado del papel higiénico y encontramos que la combinación de nuestra alturas es mas alta que un t-rex pero nuestra altura individual es pequeña que un t-rex. Hicimos el volcán eructar, fue emociónate ver los niños observar nuestro volcán. Celebramos  nuestro aprendizaje cortando y decorando un hueso de dinosaurio para crear un t-rex. También celebramos el día mundial de síndrome de down! Usamos medias de muchos colores! Los niños decidieron que nuestro próximo estudio será en panadería y una tienda de helados.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
