Adaptation! Adaptación!

Our first week of the New Year 2017! This week, we discussed how animals adapt to the winter. We learned that some animals grow ticker fur to protect them from the weather. We learned that a rabbit fur changes during the winter. Rabbit fur changes to white so they can protect themselves from weather and other animals. Some of animals that adapt to the weather are mice, rabbit, some owl and deer. The children practiced their fine motors skills. They drew pictures of mice and use scissors to cut out rabbits and glue cotton. Also, the children used shipping foam peanuts to make igloos. The children used mittens to measure their height and count 1:1 correspondence. The children decided our next study would be on Pets.

Nuestra primera semana del ano Nuevo 2017!  Esta semana, discutimos como los animales se adaptan  al invierno. Aprendimos que los animales crecen una  pelaje ms grueso que los protege del clima. Aprendimos que algunos conejos cambian de color su pelajes durante el invierno. Los Conejos cambia de pelajes a blanco así se pueden proteger del clima y otros animales. Algunos animales que se adaptan al clima son ratones, conejos, alguno búho y venados. Los niños practicaron sus motricidad fina.  Ellos dibujaron su representación de ratones y usaron Tijeras para corta una figura de una coneja y pegar algodón. También, los niños usaron los espumas para empacar para hacer  iglú. Los niños usaron manoplas para medir su  estatura y contar 1:1 correspondiente. Los niños decidieron que nuestro próximo estudio  va hacer en mascotas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At the table game, the children played with small colored blocks, puzzles, and Mr. Potato Head. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
