Clothes! La ropa!

This week, we begin our study in clothes.  We set up a clothes shop. The children sorted clothes and use hangers to arrange the clothes. The children expanded their play scheme, they ask for music and a runway so they can model different clothes. The children created a fabric collage and we used scissors to cut out a t –shirt. The children used markers, colored pencils and stickers to design their own t-shirt. At the sensory table, the children play with different socks. We discussed size and how much sand each sock can hold.  We used balance to find out which sock was heavier. The school year is coming to an end. We discussed how kindergarten and preschool are similar and different. We can’t believe the year is almost gone!
Esta  semana, empezamos nuestros estudio en la ropa. Hicimos un a tienda de ropa. Los niños clasificaron y usaron ganchos para arreglar la ropa. Los niños expandieron su juego, preguntaron por música y pasarela para que ellos modelaron diferentes ropas. Los niños crearon fabrica para hacer una collage y usaron las tijeras para cortar una camiseta de papel. Los niños usaron marcadores, colores y etiqueta para diseñar su propia camiseta. En la mesa sensorial, los niños jugaron con diferentes medias. Discutimos tallas cuanta arena puede  sostener una media. Usamos una balanza para encontrar cual media es la pesada. El año esta llegando a su final. Estamos discutiendo como kínder y el preescolar se parece y como son diferentes. No podemos creer que el año ya se va acabar!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
