Insects! Insectos!

We continued learning about insects. We learned about how honeybees collect nectar and pollen. They carry it to their hives. The children taste honey. We found out everybody like the taste of honey, because it is sweet. Also, we learned that spider work really hard and use their web to catch their food. We used cardboard to make beautiful spiders. The children continued to explore insects. They used microscopes and magnifying glasses to explore different insects and describe their color, shape and size. We practiced our fine motor by transferring water with eyedroppers and used nest to catch insects. This week was our family picnic. It was great to enjoy a fun day with the family and play outside on a beautiful spring day. We want to thank the families for taking their time and sharing with our class and school!
Continuamos nuestro estudio en insectos. Aprendimos que las abejas colectan néctar y polen. Las abejas los cargan sus  colmenas. Los niños probaron miel. Encontramos que a todos les gusta la miel, porque es dulce. También, aprendimos que las arañas trabajan muy duro en sus telarañas para agarrar su comida. Los niños usaron los microscopio y las lupas para explorar insectos y describir su color, figura y tamaño. Practicamos nuestra motricidad fina para transferir agua y usamos  malla para agarrar insectos. Esta semana fue nuestro picnic familiar. Fue grandioso  disfrutar del día con las familias y jugando afuera en un día de primavera. Queremos agradecer a las familias por tomarse el tiempo y compartir con nuestra clase y la escuela!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
