Flowers! Las Flores!

This week we continue our study in flowers. The children used flowers as paintbrushes. It was fun to observe the different patterns and mixed colors. The children continue to pretend to sale and make cards for the flower arraignments.  The children observed the bean sprouts and we planted them in a small cup.  We learned why water is important for the flower and how it travels from the bottom to the top. We use carnation flowers and each child chose the color of the water. We put the flower in colored water and we left it overnight. The children observe how the flower changes color. This week we had a special guess from Wells Fargo. We learned the importance of things we need and things we want.  It was a week full of learning and fun experiences!

Esta semana continuamos nuestro estudio en las flores. Los niños usaron flores con pinceles o brochas. Fue divertido observar los diferentes patrones y como mezclar los colores. Los niños continuaron pretendieron vender y hacer tarjetas para sus arreglos de flores. Los niños observaron como los granos crecieron y los plantamos en vasos.  Aprendimos  porque el agua es importante par alas flores y como el agua viaja desde la parte baja hasta arriba. Usamos claveles y cada niño eligió el color para hacer el agua de diferente colores. Pusimos las flores in agua de color y la dejamos una noche. Los niños observaron como las flores cambiaron de color. Esta semana tuvimos una invitados especiales del banco Wells Fargo. Aprendimos la importancia de cosas que necesitamos y cosas que queremos. Esta semana estuvo llena de aprendizaje y experiencias divertidas!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
