Water transportation! La transportación en el agua

This week it was about water transportation. We added a small boat to our dramatic play and the children pretended to fish and the children counted 1:1 correspondence to the fish. We learned the importance of how to use life jackets and why it is important to have adult supervision around water such as pools, beaches and lakes. The children experimented with different materials and water, and we find out which material float and sink. Also, we discussed why some objects float and some sink. The children made boats with different materials and we tried their boat resistance by added a rock.  Also, we learned that water travels from one cup to another. This process is called “capillary action”; the water uses this process to move along the tiny gaps in the fiber of the paper towels.

Esta semana fue acerca de la transportación en el agua. Añadimos un pequeño bote a nuestra are de dramático y los pretendieron  pescar y los niños contaron 1:1 correspondencia los pescados. Aprendimos la importancia de usar salvavidas y porque es importante que un adulto este con los niños alrededor de agua como en la piscina, playa o lago. Los niños experimentaron con diferente materiales y agua, encontramos que algunos materiales flotan y otros se hunden. También, discutimos porque algunos objetos flotan y otros se hunden. Los niños hicieron botes con diferente materiales y probaron su resistencia añadiéndole rocas. También aprendimos que el agua puede viajar de una copa a otra a través del papel. Este proceso se llama acción capilar; el agua usa este proceso para moverse a través de la pequeña apertura de la fibras del papel de toalla.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
