September! Septiembre!

We spent the month of September learning how to get along with others in a community-oriented classroom and learning the names of our friends. We worked on building relationships with our friends and teachers. The children now feel safe and secure with us and the crying has stopped. They are beginning to understand the concept of our classroom as a community and why we must follow the rules in our classroom.  We spent the month learning how to use the classroom materials and how to play and share with our new friends. The children have been working on strengthen their fine motor skills. They had use different materials to paint and they are practicing using scissors and using different writing tools.
We will like to thank the parents for attending  “Our Cookie & Milk” open house. It was excited for us to see the children share with their parents their favorite center and explain to them how to use the materials. Krista and I are excited about the opportunity to play a part in your child’s early learning process. Remember we are a team. Working together will enhance your child’s education.
Fall is here! We are ready to learn about the harvest season. During the month of October we will learn about changes in the weather and environment, apples and pumpkins.

Pasamos el mes de septiembre aprendiendo a como establecer un salón que sea asemeja a una comunidad y estamos aprendiendo los nombres de nuestros nuevos amigos. Estamos trabajando para establecer relaciones y amistades con nuevos amigos y maestras. Los niños se sienten seguros con nosotras y han dejando de llorar. Están comenzando a entender el concepto de un salón como una comunidad y porque debemos seguir las reglas en nuestro salón. Pasamos el mes aprendiendo a como usar los materiales y como jugar y compartir con nuestros amigos. Los niños han estado trabajando en fortalecer su motricidad fina. Ellos están usando diferentes materiales para pintar y ellos esta practicando como usar las tijeras y diferentes materiales para escribir.
Quisiéramos agradecerle a todos los padres por venir a nuestra orientación “Galletas y leche”. Fue emocionante  para nosotros ver a los niños compartir con sus padres sus centro de juego favorito y explicarle como usar los materiales. Krista y yo estamos emocionadas de tener la oportunidad de jugar una parte en el temprano aprendizaje de sus hij@s. Recuerde somos un equipo. Trabajando juntos podemos  mejorar la educación de su hiJ@.
El otoño esta aquí! Estamos listo para aprender acerca de temporada de la 
cosecha. Durante el mes de octubre aprenderemos acerca de los cambios en el clima y nuestro alrededor, manzanas y calabazas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
