Dinosaurs! Dinosaurios!

We began our week by practicing how to knock on the door and ask for trick or treat. The children had so much fun. Our Fall party was a success. We would like to thank the parents for attending and sharing with us a special snack and movie. This week, we will begin our study on dinosaurs. We transformed our dramatic area into a Science museum. The children use brushes to dig for fossils and dinosaurs. We learned that the paleontologist go around the world in search for bones dinosaurs and fossils. The children painted dinosaurs and made dinosaurs with different shapes. The children are signing their names every day.  I would like to thank the parents who met with me and discussed their child progress and we created goals for this school year. Remember, we are a team!

Comenzamos nuestra semana practicando como tocar la Puerta y preguntar por caramelos. Los niños se divirtieron mucho. Nuestra fiesta de Otoño fue un éxito. Quisiéramos agradecer a los padres por atender y compartir con nosotros una merienda especial y una película. Esta semana, empezamos con nuestro estudio en dinosaurios. Transformamos nuestra área de dramático en un museo de ciencia. Los niños usaron brochad para limpiar dinosaurios y fósiles. Aprendimos que los paleontólogos  viajan alrededor del mundo en busca de huesos de dinosaurios y fósiles. Los niños pintaron dinosaurios y hicieron dinosaurios con diferentes figuras geométricas. Los niños empezaron a firmar su nombre todos los días. Me gustaría agradecer a todos los padres que se sentaron conmigo a discutir el progreso de su hij@ y  creamos nuevas metas para este año escolar. Recuerde somos un equipo!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
