Pumpkins! Calabazas!

Pumpkins! Pumpkins! We discuss how pumpkins grow on a vine and how pumpkins can be green and orange. The children had the opportunity to discuss and pretend to have the responsibilities of a farmer at the pumpkin patch. Also, we created a small café. The children pretended to sell cookies, pies and popcorn. The children had the opportunity to act out different roles. During the week, the children painted their representation of pumpkins and we practiced our fine motor skills by hammering golf tees into the pumpkin. The children learned that a pumpkin float just like apples. The children sorted gourds by smooth and bumpy. The children used candy pumpkins and toothpicks to create different structures. Also, we tasted pumpkin spice marshmallows and we created a graph. We would like to thank the parents that donated pumpkins to our class. 
Calabazas! Calabazas!  Discutimos como la calabazas crecen en una viña y como la calabas puedes ser verde y naranja. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de discutir y pretender las responsabilidades de un granjero en un sembradío de calabazas. También creamos un pequeño café. Los niños pretendieron vender galletas, pie y palomitas. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de actuar diferentes roles. Durante esta semana, los niños practicaron su motricidad finas usaron martillos para martillas  dientes de golf a nuestra calabazas. Los niños hicieron predicciones sobre calabazas pueden flotan como las manzanas. Los niños clasificaron calabazas en suaves e irregulares. También los niños usaron caramelos de calabazas (Gomitas) y palillos de  dientes para crear diferentes estructuras. También probamos malvavisco de calabazas y hicimos el gráfico  Nos gustaría  agradecer a los padres que donaron calabazas a nuestra clase.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
