Transportation! Transportación!

This week, we learn about water transportation.  The children had the opportunity to pretend to row a boat and fishing. The children had the opportunity to count 1:1 and sort fishes. At the sensory table, the children explored different objects that float and sink. Also, they practice their eye- hand coordination by using a spoon and floating tops. The children played with dominos and they counted 1:1 and simple adding. We found out the water is able to travel through paper. The water moves against gravity along the tiny gaps within the fibers of the paper towel. We finished our week with a sweet treat. We sorted, counted and graphed M&M’s.  The class voted and our next topic will be winter.
Esta semana, aprendimos acera la transportación en el agua. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de pretender remar y pescar. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de contar 1:1 y clasificar pescados. En la mesa sensorial, los niños exploraron diferentes objetos que flotan o se hunden. También, los niños practicaron su ojos- manos coordinación usando una cuchara y tapas de botellas que flotaban. Los niños jugaron con dóminos y contaron 1:1 y sumando. Encontramos que el agua puede viajar a través del papel. El agua se mueve contra la gravedad  a través de la pequeña fibra de la toalla de papel . Terminamos nuestra semana con algo dulce. Los niños clasificaron, contaron y hicieron un gráfico  de M&M. Nuestra clases voto y nuestro próximo  tópico de estudio será Invierno.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At the table game, the children played with small colored blocks, puzzles, and Mr. Potato Head. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
